Patient's comments, criticism, Praise, fears and suggestions were gathered by members of the committee. Other hospitals around New England have copied this format. He also introduced Chest Physiotherapy to the hospital. He had a common sense approach to clinical problem solving and demanded scientific verification. The care of his patients always had first consideration. He in 1978, as President of the Cumberland County Medical Society, announced that the society's eighty-three allopathic surgeons agreed to free second opinions to citizens who have had surgery recommended to them. Joseph Califano, U.S. Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare called the program "extraordinary", and an idea that could work nationally. Dr. Hiebert was Chief of Surgery at Maine Medical Center and Director, Division of Thoracic Surgery 1986-1989. He was Chairman emeritus, Dept. of Surgery until his death. Invited lectureships were many- to St. John's Newfoundland, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons at the Toronto General Hospital and Winnipeg, Rome, Madrid, Paris, Basel, Louvain, Belgium, Hong Kong, Natal, Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Bristol, England. He was representative from the American Board of Surgery at the First Arab Board of Surgery examinations, In Bagdad, Iraq, Dec 1986. He was Permanent Vice President of Class '51 Harvard Medical School. His partners in practice were Dr. Jerry Morton and Dr. Robert Kramer Dr. Hiebert led a full and interesting life. He said that he had never been bored a day in his life, he always had projects on the go. He was happiest at his former residence in Windham landscaping; gardening, chain sawing, moving rocks and plants so often a young friend observed that it might be easier to plant them on wheels. He loved to show off the place, especially his mill house, to family, friends and neighbors. No one escaped without giving a helping hand. He enjoyed photography, wood carving, played the trumpet, the bugle and the Alp horn. He climbed the Matterhorn in 1957. All his life he was an avid skier and in retirement was a volunteer with the Maine Handicapped Skiing Program at Sunday River for 5 years. Margaret Grant

AUGUSTA -- Margaret Grant passed away on June 14, 2008, at MaineGeneral Medical Center.

She is survived by her four sons, Raymond, Thomas, Robert and John, as well as nine grandchildren. Of the nine, she had a special relationship with and will be sorely missed by Jennie, Johnny, Tabitha and Nancy.

Margaret was an outstanding caretaker to the elderly population most of her life, until she was unable to perform those duties required of her due to her arthritis. Her greatest achievement, as with so many single moms of this world, was her role as a mother. She worked two to three jobs to raise her four boys most of her working life and always found time in between her busy schedule to attend all of the ball games of her sons. She was a fierce defender and fan of her boys throughout her life. She raised her boys to be respectful of others, work hard, to be proud of who we are and to hold our heads up high.

Margaret overcame many obstacles in her life. She received only a second-grade education because of her mother; she worked most of her childhood without pay. She ran away many times only to be turned over again by her mother. Upon return to the misery she was locked up for weeks at a time in a shed without daylight, without sanitation, and only fed beans and water. This is only one of the lesser things that Margaret overcame which shaped her to be independent, stubborn and brutally honest. Despite all her hardships she had a great sense of humor.

She loved cooking, hats, sunsets, mountains and flowers, as well as the rest of God's beauty, on a daily basis.

Margaret will be missed dearly as she knows looking down upon us. She was the pillar of strength in so many ways that many friends and family leaned upon. We will only say goodbye for now, Margaret, until we cross that divide that separates us.

We know that we will recognize you by the crowns that you are now wearing upon your head, for you certainly gave so much, to so many, with so very little. You were definitely the woman who gave her last penny that Jesus spoke of in his parables whose reward would be great in heaven as you so richly deserve.

Helen A. Colin

BRUNSWICK — She was born Helen Agnes Parker on June 21, 1917 in the home that her grandfather had built in the rural farming community of Sarver, PA. Over the next seventy years she survived two husbands, raised a son, was a valued employee of the local school superintendent's staff, and for more than 50 years enjoyed a vital and energetic life in her church community, always never more than a few miles from where she was born. But in 1998, seven years after the passing of her second husband, she chose to move here to the retirement community of Thornton Oaks to be near her son and his family in the nearby town of Bowdoin. She was still a resident there when, on May 28, a few weeks short of her ninety-first birthday and following a period of failing health, she slipped away with her family beside her.

Helen was the daughter of Richard and Amelda (Myers) Parker, one of ten children in a blended family of brothers, sisters and step-siblings. The farm where they were raised near the west bank of the Allegheny River is still owned by one of the Parker family.

She attended elementary school in Sarver, graduating in 1935 from the high school in nearby Freeport, PA.

She was an employee of Burford's Five & Dime in Freeport when she met and later married Ralph C. Brenneman, Jr. in 1942. Ralph built them a home in a rural area that was to become part of Natrona Heights, not five miles from where she was raised. Natrona itself was a small, peaceful company town on the banks of the Allegheny River when Ralph and Helen were courting, but with the U.S. entrance into WW II, the local steel mill more than quadrupled its employment. Known today as Allegheny Ludlum Steel, the plant was a prime source of stainless steel, which came into wide use in the aircraft industry. The company's continued success as a specialty steel manufacturer assured Natrona's economic security in the years since the war, even during the 1980's when so many other steel mills failed. Their only child, Dale, was born in 1945.

Ralph had been working as a mechanic for the same company in Natrona Heights for nearly 15 years when he passed away suddenly in 1964. Helen continued to live in the house he had built for her and worked in the Superintendent's office of the local Highland School District.

In 1978 she married Arnold M. "Pud" Colin, who passed away in 1981.

Throughout her adult life she was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Natrona Heights, an especially reliable and enthusiastic presence in the kitchen for benefit dinners and working in the church food co-op. When the church bought its own tour bus and began sponsoring trips about the country for parishioners, Helen was a regular participant. When her step-daughter's family was moved to Europe by General Motors, she did not hesitate to travel alone to visit them there. Always an energetic gardener, she became a regular fixture in her son's commercial greenhouse when she moved to Maine. Outfitted with full apron, gloves, and potting tools, she was often presumed to be in charge when retail customers popped through the door. But she was always firm, "… you have to talk to my son …", never pausing in her work at the potting table. Besides her son, Dale, and his wife, Barbara Bloor Brenneman, Helen is survived by a grandson, David, and his wife, Lauren Leclerc, all of Bowdoin; a step-daughter, Terri-Ann Anderson and her husband, Jon, of Nolensville, TN; two brothers, Robert Parker, of Sarver, PA, and Lawrence Parker, of Owensboro, KY; five step-grandchildren, ten step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a stepson, Arnold A. Colin, who died in 1991, leaving a widow, Joyce, of Downingtown, PA

A service of remembrance and a celebration of Helen's life will be held Friday, Aug. 1 at the Natrona Heights Presbyterian Church, 1428 Broadview Boulevard, Natrona Heights, PA. Donations in her memory are requested sent to Community Health and Nursing Services (CHANS) Hospice, 60 Baribeau Dr., Brunswick ME 04011.
